Peru, Rio Cotahuasi
Peru contains the finest whitewater rivers anywhere. Join us for a two week expedition exploring pre-Columbian ruins and rapids in the worlds deepest canyons!
Our main objective will be the Rio Cotahuasi. The Cotahuasi is the gem of the South American Andes and forms the deepest canyon in the world, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Expect to encounter high mountains, pre-Inca ruins and artifacts, incredible hiking, possible portages, and amazing class IV and V whitewater.
Groups with only kayakers should consider a combo of the Rio Colca and Cotahuasi (the Damon trip).
This expedition can be customized to the desires and skill level of the group. For example, we can extend the trip to include runs on the Rio Colca and/or Apurimac. We will employ Peruvian guides so you can truly interact with this amazing culture.
Trip participants must be 18 or older, in good physical condition and should have at least class IV paddling experience. Spaces are limited (Rafters: 6 min, 18 max; Kayakers: 4 min, 8 max). Our preference is that everyone is from the same group, so call your friends, a special rate is available for a group of 12 or more.
